Recruiting Overview
Like most people beginning their career, I wasn’t completely sure about what I wanted to do “when I grew up”. My older brother had established his career as an Operations Manager with a National Linen Company and I was envious of his lifestyle. I was 21 years old when my older brother offered me a job to come work for this National Linen Company as a “Route/Sales Driver” (basically, I would deliver clean floor mats and uniforms and pick up the dirty ones to be washed). Considering that I did not have a College Degree at the time, this job offered a pretty decent salary. However, I knew this is not what I wanted to do for a living....Keep Reading

What is a Recruiter
Within a short period of time, a gentleman by the name of Alan Humphrey contacted me and asked if I could come in for an interview. I dressed in a suit and headed in for my interview. When I got to the office, the receptionist told me to fill out an application and that Alan would meet with me once I was finished. Once I completed the application, Alan greeted me in the lobby and invited me back to his desk. Once we sat down, Alan explained that his “client” was looking for a sales representative who would contact small, medium and large businesses to offer its printing services/products. At first I was confused as to why Alan kept referring to his “client” as the one who was looking to hire a sales representative. Truthfully, I couldn’t understand why his “client” was not interviewing me if they were the ones who were looking for a candidate. ...Keep Reading

What a Recruiter does
I think everybody has heard the old proverbial cliché that, “it's hard to find good help nowadays”. When you think about it, there are over 75 million baby boomers that are going to retire in the next 5 to 10 years and there are only 30 million generation X’ers who will be available to fill their jobs. So it seems, that the old cliché of it being “hard to find good help nowadays” has just gotten harder. Interestingly enough, if you were to ask your Grandfather, you would find that it has “always been hard to find good help”. So, why is that? Well, it all comes back to the fact that mainly the unemployed and mentally unemployed are looking for jobs in the newspaper and online job boards. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that those who are unemployed (or mentally unemployed) are bad candidates. I am only saying that the chances of an employer finding the right candidate from employment advertisements are very slim....Keep Reading

History of Recruiting
Before we discuss the fees a recruiter will charge, we need to explore the history of recruiting. In order for us to see where we are today and know where we are going tomorrow, we first need to understand yesterday. Therefore, it is crucial at this point to talk about our business from the beginning. For the most part, the majority of professionals understand what a recruiter is and what a recruiter does. But, occasionally you will come across a client (less than 3% of the time) who will not know what you do....Keep Reading

Why use a Recruiter
In addition to knowing what a recruiter is and what a recruiter does, it's just as important to understand why a company will use a professional recruiter. To best describe how to contact potential clients, it is imperative that we first understand why a company will use our service. First and foremost, we save them time. There are industry experts who talk about our profession in mystical terms and apply that we are magicians who can find candidates where none were thought to exist. This is nonsense. There is absolutely nothing that we do for our clients that they cannot do for themselves. Some disagree with this and say that we can recruit out of the competition, when our clients cannot. The truth is, if clients are willing to spend the time and money, they can attract and hire exactly the same candidates that they could get through us. However, they may not know how to do it and the client’s methods can be very expensive and time-consuming....Keep Reading
