A search assignment can be obtained in many different ways. You may gather a search assignment through your marketing efforts of contacting 50 companies each morning or you may obtain them through reference checking. As a matter of fact, one of the best ways to obtain a job order is through your recruiting efforts. Matchable Search
As I mentioned earlier, the majority of the jobs you will fill, will be Matchable Search Assignments. You will find that there is a small degree of difference between a Recruitable Search Assignment and a Matchable Search Assignment. All it takes is for the Matchable Search Assignment to be missing one of the key elements of being a Recruitable Search Assignment. For example, assuming that the Search Assignment meets all of the requirements to be a Recruitable Search Assignment, but the client is unable to define the hiring process, then it would become a Matchable Search Assignment. Can't Help Search
Generally speaking a Can't Help Search Assignment is when a client will ask you to perform illegal actions such as a discriminatory search assignments. If a client asks you to perform a discriminatory search, it may be worth your time to educate the employer as to what legal hazards you may be faced with if you accept his search assignment. If you become unsuccessful in converting the search assignment into a Matchable or Recruitable classification, then you must tell the employer that you cannot help them. Qualifying the Search
The ability to qualify a search assignment is the art of asking questions when you take search assignments from clients. You should study and learn how to ask probing questions. These are also known as lead statements or open-ended questions. These questions open the potential client to focus on the main points of the general subject that needs to be covered. Try to develop a curious attitude when taking a job assignment. Ask questions (particularly probing questions) when the employer’s answers are vague or confusing. Don't be reluctant to ask for clarification on anything you don't understand. Gaining Commitment
Once you have completely taken the job description, it is important that you take the time to explain to the client our purpose and why it's important that the employer respects us through the process. By taking the time to do this, you will become one step closer to being able to determine whether this is a Recruitable (Hot), Matchable (Warm), or Can't Help (Cold) Search Assignment. We must explain to the employer that we will contact a myriad of candidates in their industry on their behalf. The best interviews that take place are the ones that will occur when your client agrees to come into your office to interview your candidates. The reason is because you are able to maximize the amount of control over the interview process. The hiring managers who agree to come into your office for interviews are more committed to hiring your candidate than the employers who don't.
